Then the dental assistant will do whatever is needed or asked of from the dentist. This may include preparing the necessary instruments for a procedure, then handing the dentist the proper tool at the proper time. They dentist will require you as an assistant to use proper judgment, and show that you can learn from experience on a day-to-day basis during new treatments and procedures. As a Dental assistant you may be required to attain further schooling or training as an x ray technician as well.
